‘Actually embarrassing’…Darren Bent reacts after seeing Raheem Sterling for Chelsea today

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has thrown his weight behind Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling after watching him shine v Manchester City today.

Sterling, who scored against his former club in a 4-4 draw, was in fine form all evening as he caused problems with his pace and runs from deep.

The £50m Chelsea signing has been one of the better players under Mauricio Pochettino so far. He seems to have found confidence again and is one of the leaders of a very young Blues side.

However, Sterling has been left out of the England squad once again and former Spurs striker Bent believes it’s quite ridiculous.

After speaking on-air this week about Sterling, Bent has now taken to social media to proclaim that it’s ’embarrassing’ that Sterling hasn’t been called up.

Raheem Sterling can force his way back to England squads

In fairness to Bent here, he does have a good point. Sterling is playing very well at the moment and given how long he was involved with England for under Southgate, it seems odd he’s now not considered.

Of course, there is a lot of competition for Sterling in attacking areas and we saw today players like Cole Palmer performing well, adding yet more competition.

However, Sterling has done more than enough in recent weeks to suggest he can be part of the Three Lions set-up. It seems odd that Southgate seems to have left him out so many times, despite the form of others.

One thing is for sure and that’s at the moment, Sterling is one of the most in-form players in England in terms of those attacking positions.

Surely, with James Maddison, Callum Wilson and Jude Bellingham potentially all missing from England, Sterling will get the call from the boss.

If not, he’ll simply get a nice rest and that will suit Chelsea just nicely.
