‘Absolutely incredible’: James Milner says Liverpool have two outstanding prospects coming through the ranks

James Milner has told Viaplay Fotball that Liverpool have two ‘incredible’ prospects coming through the ranks in Harvey Elliott and Ben Doak.

Jurgen Klopp’s men picked up a 3-1 win at Anfield yesterday as goals from Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez saw off Southampton.

The win lifted the Reds to sixth in the table and ended a difficult first-half of the season on a positive note.

Milner celebrated hitting a huge milestone yesterday too as he came off the bench to make his 600th appearance in the Premier League.

The 36-year-old praised Doak and Elliott after the game, saying the club have two gems coming through the ranks at Anfield.

Milner on Doak and Elliott

The veteran reflected on hitting an impressive milestone while talking to Viaplay yesterday.

“You see clips now [of Milner’s first appearance] and the footage looks very old and the shirts look very big,” Milner said.

“But you see people like Harvey [Elliott] and Ben Doak now and how young they are and how well they’re doing being in and around Liverpool.

“Ben coming on the other day and a similar age, only just turned seventeen. It does take you back and you know how it felt. Hopefully I can help those guys keep improving and become the best players because their abilities are absolutely incredible.

“Anything I’ve learnt on my way, if I can teach them a little bit quicker than it took me to figure it out, they’ll be flying because the ability they have is incredible.”

Doak made his first-team debut for Liverpool on Wednesday after coming off the bench in the penalty shoot-out win over Derby.

The 17-year-old was also named on the bench against the Saints yesterday and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Elliott is enjoying a breakthrough season at Anfield and has already racked up 22 appearances under Klopp during the current campaign.

The 19-year-old was given the nod once again yesterday and put in a decent performance before being replaced by Milner himself.

The youngsters will only benefit from having an experienced head like Milner around the place and the pair will be able to learn a lot from the former Leeds man.
