Club could be forced to sell ‘immense’ £58m Arsenal midfield target in January

Arsenal have been linked with Everton’s Amadou Onana in recent months and the player’s future is once again the subject of debate ahead of the January transfer window.

The Gunners had reportedly set their sights on the Toffees star, but they ended up prioritising a move for Declan Rice in the end.

However, speculation remains. The Mirror reported earlier this month that Arsenal could potentially be eyeing a cut-price deal for Onana in wake of Everton’s recent troubles.

Now, according to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook, the Toffees could be “forced to cash in” on the 22-year-old in January “to ease their financial woes”.

The journalist continued: “TalkSPORT understands that Everton are being propped up by potential new owners 777 Sports by as much as £20million per month.

“And the longer their takeover drags on the more likely the Toffees are to turn to the transfer market to raise funds.”

Arsenal target Amadou Onana boasts ‘immense’ talent

With that in mind, this could present Arsenal with an opportunity to move for one of the Premier League’s best young midfielders.

Onana is certainly one of Everton’s most prized assets at the moment. He has been outstanding after joining the club last summer for a reported £33million.

“Amadou Onana has been immense – a giant figure at the heart of midfield for Everton,” Premier League pundit Holland said on Premier League Productions earlier this year.

The Belgian is still only 21 and his ceiling seems very high. He can play as a number six and also in a box-to-box role, and under a top manager like Mikel Arteta, he could go from strength to strength.

In September, The Athletic reported that Everton would have wanted in excess of £58million for Onana. Whether the Toffees can demand this much now remains to be seen, however.
