Newcastle have one big concern when it comes to signing £30m Arsenal player

Newcastle United are apparently keen on signing Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale but there remains a major stumbling block for the Toon.

The Magpies are said to be keen on Ramsdale, according to TeamTalk. The Arsenal stopper has found himself down the pecking order below David Raya and speculation is mounting over his future.

Chelsea have been tipped to be one of the clubs Ramsdale could wind up at, while former Gunner Ray Parlour has said that Ramsdale would be an upgrade for the Blues as well.

However, according to TeamTalk, Newcastle also hold an interest in the Arsenal stopper, albeit there is a big issue holding them back from making a bid.

Newcastle have concerns about signing Aaron Ramsdale

According to the report, the Mags do like Ramsdale but there are concerns from Eddie Howe and his staff that it would upset the apple-cart a bit.

Howe is said to be very happy with his current number one, Nick Pope, and is apparently conscious of bringing Ramsdale in only to cause another situation like the one with Raya at Arsenal.

Pope has seen his place in the England squad taken by Ramsdale but he remains the number one stopper at St James’ Park and it would sting if Howe brought another top keeper in.

Of course, Ramsdale himself is likely to be uneasy about moving to another club where he isn’t the main man.

Mikel Arteta had spoken previously of having two goalkeepers competing for the same spot and swapping them around. However, David Raya is clearly number one now and the England stopper faces a tough call in January.

The Gunners paid around £30m to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United and are likely to command that and more if they do decide to sell.

January, then, could well be an interesting time for both club and goalkeeper here.
