‘Outstanding’…Steve McManaman raves about Manchester City player’s Liverpool performance

Liverpool drew with Manchester City this afternoon as a goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold scored late on to rescue a draw.

The Reds were well in the game throughout and held City at 1-0 before Trent fired in past Ederson.

For Liverpool, a lot of the performance was about keeping City’s best players quiet but it was always going to be a tough ask, especially with Jeremy Doku starting on the left instead of Jack Grealish.

Doku was a menace throughout for the Reds and Alexander-Arnold and he could quite easily have laid a goal on to kill the game off.

And praising Doku for Premier League productions, Steve McManaman was impressed with the Belgian.

Commenting on Doku’s performance and the game in general, McManaman felt the young winger was ‘outstanding’ on the day.

“A point apiece, both teams will be happy, both managers will be fairly happy. I thought Man City were the better team, Doku was outstanding. Liverpool got the result they probably wanted. They’ll be very happy to get away with a point. It was an entertaining game,” McManaman said.

The young winger has looked very bit the brilliant signing since he arrived in the summer.

Doku is already a player who looks the business at Premier League level and there’s the scary thought of him going on to get even better.

In the end, the result was fair enough but Doku was easily the best player on the field in the main.
