Alasdair Gold says 24-year-old Spurs ace has been ‘one of the surprises of the season’

Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has been described by Alasdair Gold as “one of the surprises of the season so far”.

The football.london journalist also praised the Spurs full-back for his passion and backed him to potentially become a fan favourite.

Tottenham have enjoyed a solid start to the season. Even with those two defeats last week, they’re still fourth in the Premier League table.

Plenty of Spurs players have impressed Gold, who handed out many ratings of 7 out of 10 or above for how they’ve done so far this term.

Porro received an 8.5 out of 10 for his efforts so far this season, with the football.london reporter describing him as a “machine”.

“The 24-year-old Spaniard has perhaps been one of the surprises of the season so far,” wrote Gold.

“There’s been the odd wobble at the back, including late on at Palace.

“But on the whole he’s been a machine of a player, covering at both ends of the pitch from start to finish and coming inside in the No.10 role effortlessly.

“That’s because Porro has a passing ability that is second only to Maddison.

“He grabbed a second assist at Wolves with his low ball to Johnson after linking up well with Kulusevski.

“And his assist for Son at Burnley was a world class pass that would have got far more coverage had it come from a top midfielder.

“He’s also been incredibly passionate about playing for Spurs and could become a fans’ favourite as time goes on.”

Porro a great signing for Tottenham – TBR View

It looks like Porro is already on his way to becoming a fans’ favourite, and it’s no surprise. He’s a talented player and such a warrior, two things that Spurs fans love to see.

He looks the part in Tottenham’s strongest back four and, even against Wolves – when Spurs’ backline was depleted – he did well, even setting up Brennan Johnson for the opener and working hard down the right.

Porro has been a great signing for Tottenham and it’ll be exciting to see how he continues to develop for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
