Pedro Porro hails £52m star Tottenham are among favourites to sign

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Marcus Edwards in recent years and speculation is doing the rounds again ahead of the January transfer window.

For instance, Correio de Manha have reported that Spurs are leading the way to re-sign the 23-year-old from Sporting Lisbon.

Edwards left Tottenham back in 2019, doing well at Vitoria Guimaraes before sealing a move to Portuguese giants Sporting in 2022.

The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength, shining in the Champions League last season where he also netted against Spurs.

This season, Edwards endured a somewhat slow start to the campaign, but has since hit form and now has two goals and three assists from his last five league outings.

Now, the forward’s return to form for Sporting has revived interest from Premier League sides, including Tottenham, who have reportedly been scouting him.

Edwards has taken to Instagram to post a highlights reel of a recent performance and plenty of fans and peers were eager to praise the exciting talent in the comments.

This includes the likes of Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro, who called him a “baller”, and Spurs teammate Ryan Sessegnon, who posted emojis of a shocked face, a gust of wind, and fire.

Tottenham have great opportunity to snap up ‘extraordinary’ talent

Edwards has gone from strength to strength away from Tottenham, learning the ropes and developing into a world-class player who now looks ready for the Premier League.

And Porro has plenty of good things to say about his former teammate. The Spurs ace deemed Edwards an ‘extraordinary’ talent during an interview with The Guardian back in March.

Tottenham snapped up Porro from Sporting in January and even waved 15 percent of their sell-on fee on Edwards.

It means they are only entitled to 35 per cent of the fee Sporting receive for the winger should he depart, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Edwards reportedly has a release clause worth around £52million in his contract but, considering they’d effectively get a discount due to the sell-on clause, there’s certainly a deal to be done here.
