‘Silver lining’: Carlton Cole says £37m Tottenham player was actually brilliant against Chelsea

Tottenham lost to Chelsea on Monday evening in the worst possible fashion.

Not only were Spurs on the wrong end of three late goals. They also saw their team pick up two red cards and a potentially serious injury for Micky Van de Ven.

It really was a night of negatives for Tottenham. However, Carlton Cole has picked out one positive from the game for Spurs fans to take away.

Indeed, speaking on TalkSPORT’s live watchalong of the game, Cole was speaking to Jamie O’Hara about the match, and he gave Pedro Porro a glowing review, claiming that the Spaniard was the silver lining of the match for Spurs.

Porro a silver lining

Cole was quick to praise the £39m man

“Porro has been good tonight for you to be fair. He’s been really good. That’s a silver lining for you geezer,” Cole said.

“The silver lining is that we’re still second, at least,” O’Hara replied.

Credit to Tottenham

Tottenham may have lost 4-1 on the night, but it has to be said that a lot of the players who were on the pitch towards the end of the game were a credit to Spurs.

To a man, they all worked their socks off, and on another day, Eric Dier’s disallowed goal and Heung-Min Son’s late chance find the net and they come away with something.

Porro was brilliant, against all odds he put in a performance to be proud of, and, in all honesty, we didn’t see that coming from him at all.

Last season, Porro was the last player you’d expect to turn up in a moment like this,  but now, the Spaniard’s attitude seems to have completely changed and he’s always ready to stand up and be counted, even after being criticised for his defensive abilities.

Porro was a bright spot for Spurs last night, that’s for sure.
