West Ham open to signing ‘extremely fast’ £47.5m international forward

West Ham United are among the clubs who could be in the mix to sign German international forward, Timo Werner, according to reports.

Werner has had a bit of a nosedive in his career in recent years. After failing to impress at Chelsea following a £47.5m move, Werner signed for RB Leipzig in the hope of re-building his career a tad.

However, that move to the Red Bull-owned club has also gone south and Werner is now expected to be shopped around in the January transfer window.

And according to 90Min, West Ham are one of the clubs who’d be open to taking Werner.

90Min reports how the Hammers, along with Crystal Palace and Fulham, are receptive to the idea of bringing Werner in. It’s claimed that West Ham are ruling nothing out right now for January and the former Chelsea man could be an option.

Timo Werner to West Ham has red flags all over it

West Ham and David Moyes might be desperate for a new forward at some point but the idea of bringing in someone like Timo Werner is a bit risky.

The German has simply not done it for years now and he showed at Chelsea that he doesn’t cut it at Premier League level.

Of course, things can change and a new manager and change in attitude and application can sometimes yield results for players.

Werner obviously has talent in the locker somewhere. After all, Chelsea wouldn’t have paid all the money they did for him if that wasn’t the case.

Lauded by Bernd Leno for being ‘extremely fast’, Werner’s pace will always get him a move somewhere.

But right now, West Ham need someone who can hit the back of the net regularly. And while Werner might have netted 16 in all competitions last term, the jury is very much still out on him.
