Kieran Trippier has sent Eric Dier a message on social media after his display for Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening.
Eric Dier was yet to play a single minute in the Premier League this season before being called upon in Spurs’ 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The 29-year-old replaced Brennan Johnson in the 33rd minute after Cristian Romero was sent off for a reckless challenge on Enzo Fernandez.
Despite being on the receiving end of a heavy defeat, Dier impressed given the circumstances he was chucked into on the night.
Tottenham were forced to play with nine men from the 55th minute after Destiny Udogie was shown a second yellow card.
Dier formed a partnership with Emerson Royal after Micky van de Ven went off with a hamstring injury. He then played alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in central defence following Udogie’s dismissal.
And it’s fair to say that Kieran Trippier was impressed with his former Spurs teammate’s display.
Trippier applauds Dier after latest Tottenham display
Dier took to Instagram on Wednesday morning and uploaded a couple of pictures from Monday’s game.
Trippier left a comment beneath the post, which reads: “My bro.”
Former Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen also showed his appreciation for Dier’s display.
Dier had seemingly been frozen out by Ange Postecoglou before being called upon against Chelsea.
The £85,000-a-week defender got his first minutes of the Premier League season in arguably the most difficult circumstances.
Yet, he surprised many with a composed display and even defended well while playing in a high defensive line with nine men on the pitch.
It’s no surprise to see Trippier praising his former Spurs teammate after the duo struck up a good relationship in North London.
Dier now looks set to get a run in the Tottenham side once again with fears over Van de Ven’s injury, while Romero will be suspended for the next three games.
