Mikel Arteta now provides update on Martin Odegaard injury ahead of Sevilla clash

Mikel Arteta has admitted that Gabriel Jesus won’t be available for Arsenal’s clash against Sevilla tomorrow night while Martin Odegaard remains a doubt.

Speaking to the media ahead of a return to Champions League action, Mikel Arteta provided an update on Odegaard and Jesus.

The Gunners were without both players as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday.

Jesus has been ruled out with a hamstring injury ever since the 2-1 win in Seville last month, while Odegaard missed out against the Magpies after coming off the bench at West Ham just days before.

Arsenal currently sit top of their Champions League group and a win tomorrow night will take them a step closer to qualifying for the knockout stages.

Yet, Arteta looks set to be without Jesus and possibly his captain Odegaard.

Arteta says Jesus won’t make Sevilla clash

Speaking in his pre-match press conference today, Arteta shared an update on Arsenal’s team news ahead of tomorrow night’s clash at the Emirates Stadium.

“Yeah, Gabby [Jesus] won’t be fit, with Martin it is still uncertain,” he told Football.London. “With the rest, no news so far.”

It’s fair to say that Arsenal missed Odegaard’s creativity on Saturday as they struggled to break down a resilient Newcastle side.

The Norwegian hasn’t been at his best this season but he remains the most creative player in the middle of the park for the Gunners.

As for Jesus, he’s also been a massive miss for Arteta’s side, despite Eddie Nketiah’s hat-trick against Sheffield United.

The 26-year-old put in his best performance of the campaign against Sevilla last time out and was unfortunate to pick up an injury.

Nevertheless, while Jesus remains sidelined, Arteta hasn’t completely ruled Odegaard out so he could yet feature tomorrow night.
