‘Magical’: Official Champions League account hails £30m Arsenal player before Sevilla game tonight

Arsenal will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Champions League when they play away at Sevilla on Tuesday night.

The Gunners suffered a shock defeat away at Lens in the Champions League before the international break, and will want to put things right.

Ahead of the match, Gunners captain Martin Odegaard earned praise from none other than the official Champions League social account.

Writing on X, they described the Arsenal midfielder as “magical”, and included a picture of Odegaard celebrating, as well as the letter Ø.

‘Magical’ Martin Odegaard

Odegaard has come a very long way since joining Arsenal, and it’s great to see him not only match, but exceed his incredible potential.

The Norwegian was one of the best youngsters in world football when he joined Real Madrid at just 16 years of age in 2015.

He was on their books until 2021, but he only made a few senior competitive appearances for them.

Odegaard also took in four loan spells, including the one at Arsenal that led to the Gunners signing him permanently.

Arsenal have well and truly got themselves a bargain in Odegaard, who reportedly cost just £30million plus bonuses.

Already a star for club and country, he’ll fancy his chances of becoming one of the best ever players for both Arsenal and Norway in the coming years.

Admittedly, Odegaard did struggle in his last outing for the Gunners, the 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

However, every player – even the very best – will have the occasional off day. For Odegaard, those tend to be few and far between.

Arsenal will be hoping to win their first Champions League away game in nearly seven years when they face Sevilla.

Their last away win in the competition came in December 2016, when the Gunners won 4-1 at Basel.

Worringly, Arsenal have lost five of their last six away trips to Spanish sides, winning the other.

However, Sevilla have only won in two of their last nine home games in this competition.
