Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have a ‘tremendous’ £27m player in their ranks

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has described Leandro Trossard as a “tremendous” player who’s a “really good fit” for the Gunners.

The Arsenal boss was speaking to the media ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League home encounter with Lens on Wednesday night.

Trossard has been a solid acquisition for Arsenal since making the move from Brighton for a reported £27million in January.

The 28-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Gunners, 19 of which have been starts. He has registered seven goals and 12 assists in all competitions.

This season, Trossard has made 15 appearances and has an impressive return of six goals and two assists.

‘Really efficient’

Arteta, speaking at his pre-match press conference, was asked whether Trossard was one of his best value signings.

“I’m not a financial advisor or the economist of the club,” he began, as transcribed on football.london.

“But he is a tremendous player who has great talent and great intelligence to play the way we want to play. He is a really good fit for us.”

When asked about Trossard’s versatility, Arteta added: “That was one of the main reasons why we signed him. First of all he has experience of the league and did what he had done in the league already.

“In January we had a lot of issues in the front line and he could cover those necessities in a really efficient way. He has proven he can do that.”

Trossard only got his first full 90 minutes of the season last week, when Arsenal overcame Brentford in West London.

Other players may well have kicked up a fuss, but Trossard has just got on with it, remains professional and is always ready when called upon.

He has been a great signing for Arsenal and everyone connected with the club loves him for his quality and attitude.

Trossard will fancy his chances of starting on the left of the Gunners front line, after Gabriel Martinelli looked a little off it against the Bees.
