‘Crucial’…Pundit says one player proved them wrong during Manchester United v Everton

Manchester United saw off Everton with ease tonight as a wonder goal from Alejandro Garnacho took the headlines at Goodison.

United had thought a tough game lay ahead given the off field shenanigans going on but in the end, they made it a comfortable day really.

Of course, United didn’t have it all their own way with Everton creating a number of big chances in the first half and a few big saves coming from Andre Onana in the second period.

And picking up on those saves from Onana, former Everton man Leon Osman admitted he’d proven him wrong a bit.

Pundit lauds Andre Onana performance v Everton

Watching the game for the BBC, Osman was full of praise for Onana after initially being unimpressed with some of his antics.

“I was a bit critical of him in the first half, getting caught in possession or kicking the ball out and allowing Everton to gather a bit of momentum but in the crucial moments you need your goalkeeper to make saves and when he’s been called upon to keep his team ahead in the game he’s made those crucial saves. That’s the most important thing a goalkeeper can do for you,” Osman said.

United paid around £47m to sign Onana in the summer and he has had a tough time of things at times.

Indeed, United have even been tipped to make a move for Aaron Ramsdale in January, such is the situation of both goalkeepers at the moment.

However, as Osman says here, Onana proved himself more than capable here and showed that in big moments he can up trumps when needed.

Onana will no doubt go on to become a top Premier League goalkeeper and saves like those against Everton more than prove he has it in him.
