West Ham could bid £21.5m for midfielder who ‘works hard’ and is like John McGinn

David Moyes’s West Ham United are interested in signing Lewis Ferguson from Bologna.

That is according to TuttoJuve, which has reported how much West Ham could bid for the midfielder and the potential hurdle they are facing.

So, what has been reported about West Ham United and Lewis Ferguson? Let’s take a look.

West Ham United could bid for Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson

Well, according to TuttoJuve, West Ham United are interested in signing Lewis Ferguson from Bologna in the January transfer window.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that West Ham could make a bid of €25 million (£21.54 million) for Ferguson.

However, there is a hurdle for the Hammers. Brentford are also keen on the midfielder. Juventus could try to do a loan deal with the obligation to make it permanent.

Lewis Ferguson compared to John McGinn

Lewis Ferguson is one of the best midfielders in Serie A, and I am not surprised at all that West Ham United are keen on him.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has done well for Bologna, and I believe that both Celtic and Rangers are now regretting not signing him when he was still at Aberdeen.

The Scotland international, who can also operate in a central midfield role, has scored three goals and given two assists in 13 Serie A matches.

Ferguson scored seven goals in 27 Serie A starts for Bologna last season. He is an important player for Scotland.

The 24-year-old has been compared to John McGinn. McGinn is one of the best and most dynamic midfielders in the Premier League and is a star for Aston Villa and Scotland.

Former Rangers and Scotland star Barry Ferguson told Go Radio in September 2023: “I think Lewis is good enough to go and make that step. He has come on leaps and bounds as a footballer. His overall game has improved. You can see it with the coaching.

“You know what the Italians are like. I have played with Italians and they go on about how they are coached over there. His positional sense on the pitch is a lot better now than it was at Aberdeen. If he produces, similar to Hickey, then teams are going to look at him.

“I am disappointed that Rangers didn’t show any interest. I was surprised because I thought he was really good for Aberdeen. Sometimes he never played in his favoured position. He was more of a holding midfielder then.

“I like him further forward. Let him off the leash a little. A bit like John McGinn. Getting into people’s faces and getting into the box, then when he plays that position, he is a real threat – it frustrates me, at times, when a former club (Rangers) doesn’t look at guys like Lewis.”

Scott Brown played with Ferguson at Aberdeen, and in November 2023, he told Aberdeen Live that “he’s a great young lad, he wants to learn, he works hard, he has a great attitude and he lives and dies with football.
