‘Wasn’t aware’: Kilmarnock defender says he didn’t know just how good ‘electric’ Celtic player’s movement is

Celtic are blessed with many players who have incredible pace. Look at the likes of Daizen Maeda and Alistair Johnston.

Both players are exceptionally quick on the flanks and use their pace very effectively in both their attacking and defensive duties.

Maeda has been listed by UEFA as one of the quickest players in Europe. But there is one other player who has been labelled as ‘electric’ as Kilmarnock defender, Stuart Findlay, opens up on what it’s like to face Kyogo Furuhashi.

Findlay said [Open Goal], “The first game we played against him, I didn’t play against him last year so I wasn’t aware of what to expect, he went in short and the ball got played wide and I went short with him.

“And when I turned round to mark him the ball had been whipped in and he’s sitting in the six-yard box.

“And I’m like, his movement’s electric. It’s different because when you used to play against Morelos you don’t get a minute.

“If the ball gets played long to Kyogo you win the header because he’s not got any interest but he just switches on at those moments.”

The Japanese striker is famed for his lethal touch in front of goal and how he bamboozled defenders with his movement and speed.

In fact, he’s so good that Lubo Moravcik has called him a ‘wonderful talent‘ and former Celtic captain, Paul Lambert has said that the Japan international is ‘irreplaceable‘.

Kyogo’s goals have been so important to Celtic over the past two seasons but he’s developed his game under Brendan Rodgers and now, he is more dangerous than ever.

Dropping deeper, Furuhashi drags defenders out of position and that is allowing the likes of Matt O’Riley to add more goals to his game.

Kyogo has been excellent since his £4.6m move from Vissel Kobe and with the Japan star signing on for another four years, the Celtic fans will get to enjoy even more of him.
