TalkSPORT pundit highlights the big ‘issue’ Mikel Arteta faces at Arsenal

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino believes Mikel Arteta will have to resolve Arsenal’s striker situation in the summer with goals proving hard to come by.

The Gunners captain Alexandre Lacazette has four Premier League goals to his name this season and no Arsenal player has yet hit double figures for goals scored.

Academy duo Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe both have nine each with Martin Odegaard behind the England internationals with six to his name.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the Emirates to join Barcelona in January and the former captain has the same amount of Premier League goals as Lacazette this season.

Back-to-back defeats against Crystal Palace and Brighton have seen Tottenham leapfrog Arteta’s side in the race for the all important fourth Champions League spot.

Cascarino believes that Arsenal face an uphill struggle to oust Spurs with an out-of-sorts Lacazette floundering in front of goal.

Cascarino said: “Laczaette is probably the lowest scoring centre forward. He’s got four Premier League goals this season.

“Obviously he’s been in and out the team at times, but he’s played 25 games in the Premier League now and he’s got four goals.

“Lacazette is an issue. His contract is up in the summer and that’s an area they (Arsenal) they need to fill.

“You cannot do anything in football having a centre-forward that’s got, four, five or six goals in a season.”

With Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts expiring at the end of June and Aubameyang thriving in La Liga, a profilic striker is high on Arteta’s wishlist.

But offering Champions League football as a lure could prove crucial in Arteta landing his desired transfer targets.
