Ange Postecoglou now wants to sign £30m Celtic player for Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou is now interested in signing his former player Celtic star Matt O’Riley for Tottenham Hotspur in the near future.

That’s according to a report by TEAMtalk who revealed that Celtic would demand a club record fee as part of any O’Riley sale to Tottenham.

O’Riley has been in sensational form for Brendan Rodgers this season and the club’s position has been strengthened by his newly signed contract.

However, this report insists that there is major interest from Postecoglou and Spurs, who have been keeping tabs on the midfielder’s progression.

And the interest doesn’t stop at Tottenham.

All of Brentford, Brighton Hove Albion and West Ham United are also credited with interest in the Danish youth international.

Celtic’s current record sale sits at £25m, the deal which saw Jota leave for Saudi Arabia this summer.

Kieran Tierney’s move to Arsenal is the next highest sale at a similar fee.

However, any O’Riley move would be expected to eclipse those, a player who is now labelled ‘the best player in Scotland’.

Tottenham have been keeping tabs on O’Riley’s progress at Celtic

This report expects that any Tottenham offer would have to reach the £30m mark to be considered by Celtic.

Of course, Spurs are already well stacked in their midfield department under Postecoglou.

However, a possible departure for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could pave the way for O’Riley to make the move back to England.

Oliver Skipp may not be too pleased to see added competition in the role given his designs on a first team place.

However, Tottenham will need to strengthen their depth if they want to continue to compete at the top, and Celtic’s O’Riley could fit perfectly.

Alan Shearer doesn’t currently believe that this Tottenham squad will win the league this season.

The pundit has stuck to his prediction of Manchester City for the title.

However, if Postecoglou continues to recruit as astutely as he did all summer, then that may be an opinion that is tested as the season goes on.

Tottenham look to be laying the foundations of something special, and O’Riley could be the next piece of the puzzle.
