Jorginho gives one-word reaction to Gabriel display in Arsenal win vs Lens

Jorginho has lauded Gabriel Magalhaes on social media with a one-word response to the defender’s post after Arsenal beat Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Gabriel took to Instagram to pay tribute to the Arsenal supporters after the 6-0 victory which saw Mikel Arteta’s men secure top spot in their group with one game to go.

With Arsenal 5-0 up before the break, the focus for the second-half would have been avoiding any injuries and keeping a clean sheet against the Ligue 1 side.

Jorginho lauds Gabriel after Arsenal win

It was the Gunners who would find the back of the net after the break – with their sixth different goalscorer of the evening, no less. But Arsenal’s defence did have to be alert to ensure that they did not concede.

Gabriel certainly had a big moment late on, making a superb block. The Brazilian reacted to the ball going out for a corner by celebrating almost as if he had scored a goal. And David Raya clearly appreciated the moment of brilliance as he quickly embraced the centre-back.

And after Gabriel posted on Instagram to comment on the win, Jorginho was amongst those to praise the 25-year-old…

Defender’s form has gone somewhat under the radar

Arsenal definitely appear to have taken a big step forwards at the back this season. The partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel has been one of the best in the division over the last 18 months. But they have arguably continued to improve.

Arsenal have conceded just three goals in their first five Champions League games. And they have the best defensive record in the Premier League so far.

Saliba is obviously a Rolls-Royce. But Gabriel’s performances cannot go under the radar. He has been such a consistent performer for a number of years now.

Certainly, it is not said often enough what a bargain Arsenal got with Gabriel when they signed the former Lille star for just over £23 million.
