‘Unlikely’… Chelsea may not be able to sign ‘world class’ striker in January

Chelsea could struggle to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.

That is according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who has noted on X the current situation of Osimhen.

So, what has been reported about Chelsea and Napoli star Victor Osimhen? Let’s take a look.

Chelsea ‘unlikely’ to be able to sign Victor Osimhen in January

Well, according to journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter, Chelsea are interested in signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

The Italian reporter has claimed that Chelsea consider Osimhen as “the main target for their attack”. According to former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, the striker is “world class”.

Galetti has noted that the striker could leave in the summer transfer window, adding that it is unlikely that Chelsea will be able to take him to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.

Osimhen has been on the books of Napoli since 2020 when he joined from French club Lille.

The 24-year-old Nigeria international striker is under contract at the defending Serie A champions until the summer of 2025.

Chelsea face strong competition for Victor Osimhen

Just because Chelsea want to sign Victor Osimhen and have made him their main target for attack does not mean that the Blues will be able to sign him.

Three key factors will decide the future of Osimhen, who has scored six goals and given one assist in seven Serie A starts for Napoli this season.

First of all, Napoli want £120 million in transfer fees for Osimhen. Would Chelse be ready to or even afford to pay that sum amid FFP regulations?

Secondly, would Osimhen himself be willing to move to Chelsea? Yes, we know that they are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a global brand, but they did not finish in the top four of the Premier League table last season and may not do so again this campaign.

Then there is the competition that Chelsea are facing for Osimhen. Arsenal are reportedly ready to cough up £120 million for the Nigerian star. Liverpool have also been linked.
