Leeds fans react as midfielder departs, without making single appearance

Leeds United have confirmed that midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi has left the club and returned to former side Gamba Osaka, the club he was brought to Elland Road from in January 2018 – and Leeds fans have reacted sarcastically.

Ideguchi, 22, joined the Whites from Japanese side Gamba Osaka 18 months ago. The plan was to loan the Japan cap out immediately, to boost the midfielder’s chances of making his country’s World Cup squad.

He joined Spanish second tier side Cultural Leonesa, but he managed just five outings and failed to make the trip to Russia. Indeed, his career has since dwindled – following a season-long loan spell in Germany.

Looking to recover from his World Cup snub, Ideguchi joined Greuther Furth and started well – only to suffer a long-term knee injury. It saw him manage only seven outings for Furth, though he did play well in those matches.

With three years still to run on his contract, though, Leeds have opted to offload the midfielder on a permanent basis back to his old club – without making a single competitive appearance for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds fans reacted on Twitter to the news that Ideguchi has left the club, and many reacted sarcastically given that he has been allowed to leave without being handed the chance to show supporters what he is all about.
