‘Need better’… Tam McManus doesn’t believe 22-year-old Celtic player is good enough

The problem with having an aggressive transfer strategy like Celtic’s is that sometimes when you sign potential, one or two will prove to be not good enough to make it at the club.

Celtic have had plenty of experience of failure in that department but I think it is fair to say that the successes far outweigh those.

Jeremie Frimpong, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard are just three examples of when Celtic get it right, they can enjoy success on the park and make millions in transfer fees off it.

But there is one player that pundit, Tam McManus, doesn’t think is good enough to make it at Celtic and he believes the club needs to try and replace Hyeongyu Oh.

Hyeongyu Oh classed as ‘not good enough’ for Celtic

McManus was pretty scathing in his comments and I don’t think it’s a view that will be shared by many Celtic fans. Just yet.

McManus said [PLZ Soccer], “I don’t think he’s good enough. I think Celtic need a better striker. I think Celtic need to get better. I think Celtic need to get better wide players as well.

“I know they are missing players, I appreciate that but the final third, for me, Celtic, there’s something’s not clicking for me.”

The Hoops striker has had to live off scraps of gametime being allowed to him due to Brendan Rodgers‘ affinity of playing a lone striker.

It’s a role that Kyogo Furhuashi has played well and it’s just unfortunate that Oh needs to play second fiddle to him.

However, Oh has shown that when given the right amount of time, he can score goals. But when a striker lives off confidence and game time, when one is lacking the other suffers. And Oh seems to be suffering in both departments.

What the pundits are saying about Hyeongyu Oh at Celtic

Tam McManus believes that Oh is fighting for his Celtic career. It is pretty obvious that the former Hibs man doesn’t rate him.

Chris Sutton seems to be a fan and praised the youngster for his performance against St Mirren and praised him for his ‘clever‘ finish which ended up securing the three points late on at Celtic Park.

John Hartson believes that Oh is ‘doing very well‘ at Celtic right now after the Hoops legend praised his recent goalscoring form.

However, Michael Stewart seems to be of the same verdict as McManus as he claims the South Korean striker is not good enough after Celtic’s draw with Motherwell.

Brendan Rodgers’ verdict on Hyeongyu Oh at Celtic

All that matters is what the Celtic manager thinks and Rodgers seems to rate the 22-year-old Celtic striker highly.

Speaking after Oh’s late winner against St Mirren, Rodgers said, “I’m really pleased for him.

“For the guys who aren’t playing so much, you always have to recognise and acknowledge their efforts, which I do with them.

“He looks after his body, his diet, everything is superb. He’s so professional, he looks at his training and he knows when asked upon he can come in and make an impact.”

So it seems that Oh’s future at Celtic seems safe after those encouraging words from the Celtic manager. There is no doubt that the Korean needs more gametime and until he gets that, I will reserve judgment on a player who clearly has a bright future in the game.
