Kenny Miller says ‘outstanding’ Celtic player is really unlucky not to have more international caps

International week is fully underway and with Celtic having 14 players away representing their country, there will be plenty to talk about over the next ten days or so.

Scotland get the final part of the Euro 2024 qualification group underway with a trip to Georgia on Thursday and with three Celtic players currently in the squad, chances are high that at least two of them will feature.

Callum McGregor, Anthony Ralston and Greg Taylor all got the call from Steve Clarke and former Rangers striker, Kenny Miller, has said that one of them is extremely unlucky to have not received more calls from the Scotland manager.

Miller said [BBC Sportsound], “Greg Taylor now for three seasons has been an outstanding performer for Celtic. He’s just been really unfortunate that he’s found himself behind two world-class fullbacks.

“That’s just the nature of the beast at where Scotland are at the moment. But anytime he comes in, he doesn’t let anybody down.

“He personally must be full of confidence after winning leagues and winning cups. And despite so many people saying that’s an area of the Celtic team that needs to be strengthed, he just goes out there and performs.

“So it does show real mental strength the fact that he is able to fight and hold off any competition and keep his shirt at Celtic so anytime he comes in, he’s not going to let anybody down.”

And Miller is correct. It’s just plain bad luck for Taylor that he has the likes of Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson ahead of him in the pecking order.

The emergence of Aaron Hickey has also thrown a spanner in the works but Clarke was true to his word when he said Taylor will get his chance if injuries hit his Scotland squad.

After being taught lessons by England, France and Spain, Scotland will be keen to back to winning ways and it seems like Taylor will get the opportunity to help do that as Clarke now depends on him for the upcoming clash against Georgia.
