Celtic now set to offer 25-year-old player a big new contract to stay at Parkhead

Celtic have done some excellent work over the summer extending the contracts of eight players at the club.

The club got to work to tie down all of their best players immediately after Ange Postecoglou left Celtic to go to Tottenham in the summer.

However, there are a few players who still need to get their futures sorted at Celtic as their contracts slowly run down.

Joe Hart and David Turnbull immediately spring to mind but it is Liam Scales that is set to be offered a ‘bumper’ new deal to stay at Celtic according to The Sun.

The 25-year-old defender is currently on international duty with the Republic of Ireland and has been ‘immense‘ for both club and country.

Stepping in during a defensive injury crisis, Scales’ performances have lit up Celtic Park and he is now a mainstay in the Hoops first team.

Brendan Rodgers expects the contract talks to happen soon and said of the defender, “It’s something that I’m sure the club and his representative will look at.

“It doesn’t sit well with me when players are going down to the final stages of contracts. I think you only need to look at the fact that I’ve chosen him to play very consistently in games.

“There are also players back now fit that are pushing him but he’s still performing to a high level.

“Keep showing that you can be consistent and stay focused.

“But there’s no doubt that he’s stepped in and done really well.”

TBR Celtic told last month how Scales was next in line to be offered a new deal and there is absolutely no doubt that he deserves it.

Brendan Rodgers admitted himself that Scales’ rise to prominence in the Celtic team was one of the biggest surprises of his career so it is little wonder that he is keen to sort out his long-term future.

Hopefully, the deal will be offered sooner rather than later and Scales can continue to concentrate on keeping his place in the Celtic first-team.

In other news, Celtic told that there is a £3m striker in Scotland that they can get to replace Kyogo Furuhashi in January
