Pep Guardiola suggests key Manchester City player could miss Liverpool clash now in major blow

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has revealed that his team could be without star defender Ruben Dias for the crucial clash with Liverpool next week.

Dias has already been missing for around a month or so but there was hope at the City end that the Portgueuse defender might make a return following the international break. However, it’s not looking overly positive for Dias, who has been ruled out of this weekend’s fixtures.

And speaking to his press conference today, Guardiola also revealed that Dias could be set to miss out against Liverpool.

Ruben [Dias] and Cole Palmer are out. The rest are fit. He is out. I don’t know. The doctor said for four to six weeks. We need 10 days or two weeks more. The plan depends on the players when I saw them for the training today and yesterday,” Guardiola said (MEN).

City have managed to find themselves in a battle with the Reds over top spot. A win for Liverpool could see them become favourites, despite City holding a double figures gap at one point this season.

TBR’s View: City Need Dias Return ASAP

If City are to win the Champions League and the Premier League, they need Ruben Dias back. He is one of the best central defenders in the world and we see how important Van Dijk is to Liverpool in this.

Dias was one of the stars of the show last season, if not the star. For all City’s attacking prowess, simply put, they need their star defender back for the big run-in.
