Manchester City are in talks to award Ruben Dias a new contract after an incredible debut season with the club.
According to the Sun, the Premier League champions are eager to hand the defender a bumper deal following a standout campaign with City.
Dias was named the Premier League Player of the Year and was key to the club’s title-winning season.
Alongside John Stones, Dias formed one of the best centre-back partnerships in the division. City strolled their way to a fifth Premier League title. The Portuguese international only joined the club in the summer of 2020.
As per the report, Dias earns £90,000-a-week at the club, much less than what Stones is on.
The Athletic reported that the England international currently makes £250,000-a-week after signing a new long-term contract with City.
Jose Mourinho wrote in the Sun that he believes Dias is ‘the best centre-back in the world’. Indeed, the 24-year-old defender has made a serious impression since moving to the Premier League.
And with Stones recently earning a new contract with a huge salary increase, Dias could be about to receive the same treatment from City.
Moreover, the club will likely be open to rewarding the former Benfica star with a bumper contract at the club.
