2 shots on target, 3 key passes: 20-year-old Liverpool gem is a star in the making

Liverpool have sealed top spot in their Europa League group following a 4-0 win over LASK at Anfield on Thursday night.

The Liverpool victory, combined with Toulouse’s failure to beat Union St-Gilloise, ensures the Reds cannot be caught at the top of Group E.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side after just 12 minutes, smashing a superb header past the opposition keeper from Joe Gomez’s cross.

Cody Gakpo then doubled the Liverpool lead a few minutes later, applying the finishing touch from point-blank range after good work alongside Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

Salah added a third from the penalty spot early on in the second half, and Gakpo wrapped up the scoring in the 91st minute following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s clever pass.

‘Fine display’ from Liverpool gem Harvey Elliott

It was a pretty much flawless performance from Liverpool, who had several youngsters play in the match and do well.

For instance, Harvey Elliott delivered an impressive display, once again showing why he’s one of England’s most exciting young players.

As per Whoscored, the 20-year-old weighed in with four shots, two of which were on target, and made three key passes.

Elliott also completed one dribble, whipped six crosses and six long balls in, and made one tackle in the match.

The youngster was one of three players who got an 8 out of 10 from the Liverpool Echo on the night.

“Busy and effective on the right of midfield three, picking up a lot of loose balls and fired one free-kick wide and forced good Lawal save,” they wrote. “Fine display.”

Elliott has made some huge strides this season and it’s exciting to think how much he can develop further as he gains more experience in the training ground and on the pitch.
