35 touches, five duels lost… ‘Excellent’ 20-year-old has just ruined his chances to start for Celtic vs Lazio

With Celtic set to face Lazio in the Champions League tomorrow night, the weekend’s game against Motherwell was the perfect opportunity for players to stake their claim for a starting spot in Rome.

With Reo Hatate still out injured until at least December, Brendan Rodgers has been too-ing and fro-ing with who he thinks should be slotted in beside Callum McGregor and Matt O’Riley.

The Celtic boss has tried Paulo Bernardo and to a certain degree, he has done okay. David Turnbull has equipped himself well with his current goalscoring record but there are other elements to his game that he needs to develop.

Tomoki Iwata is another that’s not really had a chance to make an impact this season but when he got his chance against Livingston last month, he did impress.

However, one player who hasn’t done his chances of starting against Lazio tomorrow night is Odin Thiago Holm.

The 20-year-old ‘excellent‘ Norwegian struggled to make any sort of impact against Motherwell and was eventually hooked at halftime by Brendan Rodgers.

Odin Thiago Holm’s Celtic performance was very poor

Rated at 6.1 by Footmob, Holm really struggled to put a foothold in the Celtic midfield. In the 45 minutes he was on the pitch, the youngster only managed to get 35 touches of the ball.

Out of his 28 attempted passes, Holm had a success rate of 86% which isn’t too bad. However, he only made three passes into Mothwewell’s final third as he struggled to help break down a dogged defence.

Defensively, Holm was extremely poor. Out of six duels he competed in, he won just one. Holm also managed to make just one interception, was dribbled past twice, dispossessed once and made just two ball recoveries.

It really was a 45 minutes to forget for the young Norwegian international as he continues to struggle to find any kind of consistency under Rodgers despite having a strong performance in the Glasgow Derby at Ibrox in September.

In other news, £12m player is being considered for a January move by Celtic
