£52m Liverpool target joins same agency as Cody Gakpo and Tyler Morton

Liverpool have been linked with Donyell Malen in recent weeks and speculation is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window.

In late September, BILD reported that the Reds had set their sights on the £52million-rated Borussia Dortmund and Netherlands ace.

Now, the German outlet has provided a new update on Malen which also mentions Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has changed representation, swapping from Mino Raiola’s former agency – now headed by Rafaela Pimenta – to ‘the Dutch XXL agency SEG’.

Interestingly for Liverpool, SEG counts Reds players Cody Gakpo and Tyler Morton among their clients, along with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Sergio Gomez.

BILD claim that Liverpool have a long-standing interest in Malen, having apparently nearly signed him in the summer of 2021 before his move to Dortmund.

That interest has not gone away, according to the report, and the newspaper insists Liverpool have still Malen ‘on their radar’ and Jurgen Klopp ‘is still keeping an eye on him’.

Liverpool eyeing ‘quick, technically proficient’ forward

Malen is a ‘very dangerous‘ player of the highest calibre. At 24, he has a mix of experience and promise, and is yet to reach his prime. In fact, he seems to be getting better and better.

In 2021, Breaking the Lines published an in-depth scouting report about the Dutchman, then playing for PSV Eindhoven.

‘He is a quick, technically proficient modern attacker who is not too dependent on others to create chances in the final third and who is comfortable using either foot to score goals,’ they wrote.

‘One thing that makes Malen stand out against Eredivisie defences is his speed.

‘Although he is naturally a striker, his speed enables him to play on either flank, as he can easily win a 1v1 duel and arrive into the right goal-scoring position.’

Admittedly, Liverpool are well stocked in attack at present. However, should there be any outgoings on that front in 2024, then the Reds could intensify their interest.
