‘I’m happy here’… £43 million player now suggests he won’t be joining Arsenal or Liverpool in January

Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams has suggested he won’t be joining Arsenal or Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp could be on the lookout for a new forward over the coming transfer windows.

Arsenal have long been searching for quality cover for Bukayo Saka, having already missed out on the likes of Raphinha and Mykhaylo Mudryk.

As for Liverpool, they could face the prospect of replacing their star player in Mohamed Salah over the summer.

It’s no secret the Egyptian forward has received serious interest from Saudi Arabia and that isn’t expected to go away anytime soon.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Nico Williams.

Indeed, the Gunners have already expressed an interest in Williams while Liverpool are also said to be keen.

But Williams has suggested he won’t be on the move anytime soon.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Williams has stated that he is happy at Athletic Bilbao and has assured their fans they can relax over his future.

“I’m happy here in Bilbao,” he said. “Athletic fans can be relaxed, no worries.”

Williams has caught the eye of a host of Premier League clubs of late, with Tottenham and Aston Villa also linked.

The winger has starred for Athletic over the past couple of years and at 21, he looks set for a bright future ahead in football.

He’s already earned 11 caps for Spain, netting two times in the process.

There have been suggestions of late that Williams’ contract talks with Athletic Bilbao have stalled.

It would appear that his short-term future lies in Spain given his most recent comments. But it may be one to keep an eye on due to a £43 million release clause in his current deal.

That will be a blow for both Arsenal and Liverpool as they search for a new forward.

Williams has proven to be a versatile option throughout his career so far and can operate off either flank.
