‘Magnificent’… Martin Keown amazed by 25-year-old Liverpool player on international duty

Martin Keown has given his verdict on Liverpool and England international star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The former Arsenal star and talkSPORT pundit was impressed by how Alexander-Arnold played in midfield for England against Malta last week.

So, what has Martin Keown said about Liverpool and England ace Trent Alexander-Arnold? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold played for England in midfield last week.

England won 2-0 against Malta in European Championship Qualifying Group C last Friday evening.

Alexander-Arnold started for the Three lions on the right of a midfield-three.

Although England were disappointing overall, the Liverpool star did well on a personal level in midfield and earned the praise of manager Gareth Southgate.

The 25-year-old took four shots, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 92.3% and took 109 touches.

Former Arsenal and England international defender Martin Keown was impressed with Alexander-Arnold.

Keown said on talkSPORT (11:37 am, November 20, 2023): “I thought Trent Alexander-Arnold was magnificent in midfield.”

Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold could become a world-class midfielder

In my view, Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold could become a world-class midfielder. I believe that the England international has all the attributes for the role.

Alexander-Arnold is a very athletic and energetic player. The 25-year-old can whip in brilliant long passes and can also provide superb crosses. He can also take quality free kicks.

The Liverpool star does need to work on the defensive side of things as a right-back, but if he is being deployed in midfield in the long run, then it is likely that he would be played in an advanced role.

The problem that Liverpool face in playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield on a regular basis is that they would need as good a right-back as the Englishman.

Alexander-Arnold has scored 12 goals, given 55 assists and kept 65 clean sheets in 208 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
