Tottenham Hotspur are now trying to stop £85,000-a-week player from leaving

Tottenham Hotspur have made a decision on the future of Eric Dier.

That is according to CM, which has reported interest from Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

So, what is being reported about Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to CM, AS Roma are interested in signing Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

Roma are looking for a centre-back in the absence of former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Jose Mourinho worked with Dier at Tottenham, and the former Chelsea boss wants the Englishman at Roma.

However, Tottenham do not want to sell Dier. The report has noted that Spurs are resisting a potential exit for the £85,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender because of the injury to Micky van de Ven.

Dier, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur should not sell Eric Dier in January

In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur should not sell Eric Dier in the January transfer window.

Yes, Dier is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season. It is unlikely that the 29-year-old will sign a new deal.

But, Tottenham have injury issues now. Micky van de Ven will be on the sidelines for a long time. Cristian Romero could get suspended again because of the way he plays.

Dier will be out of contract at Spurs in the summer of 2024, so it is not as if Tottenham will get a massive transfer fee for him in January.

Tottenham are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, and I believe that Dier could play his role.

The defender has made 272 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. Dier has scored 12 goals, given nine assists and kept 86 clean sheets in those games.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk has claimed that Tottenham are showing interest in Lennon Miller. The report has noted that Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Celtic and Rangers have also scouted the Motherwell midfielder this season.
