Newcastle are now just waiting to sign ‘sensational’ player, they’ve made proposal

Newcastle United have made a move for Ruben Neves.

That is according to Sport, which has reported two potential hurdles that Newcastle are facing in bringing Neves to St. James’ Park in the January transfer window.

So, what is being reported about Newcastle United and Ruben Neves? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to Sport, Newcastle United are interested in signing Ruben Neves from Al Hilal in the January transfer window.

Neves joined the Saudi Pro League club from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2023.

Newcastle want to bring the 26-year-old back to the Premier League as a replacement for Sandro Tonali, who is serving a ban now.

The report has noted that the midfielder has a “proposal” from Newcastle to move to the club in the January transfer window.

Newcastle are now “waiting for him”, according to the report.

Sport, though, has pointed out two potential hurdles for Newcastle in their quest to secure the services of Neves in the middle of the season.

Firstly, Arsenal want to sign Neves. Gunners manager Mikel Arteta personally wants the midfielder in his squad as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey.

Secondly, the Premier League is set to put a temporary ban on teams signing players from associated clubs on loan.  Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) own Newcastle and Al Hilal.

Ruben Neves would be a superb signing for Newcastle United

In my view, former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Neves knows the Premier League inside out and was a big success during his time at Wolves. He has played in Europe as well.

The Portugal international midfielder made 177 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The 26-year-old scored 21 goals and gave nine assists in those games.

Former Manchester United defender and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville rates Neves highly.

Neville said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:29 pm, March 18, 2022) that Neves is “a top, top player” and is “sensational”.

I believe that Neves would seamlessly slot into the Newcastle midfield. The Portuguese ace could just replace the banned Sandro Tonali in manager Eddie Howe’s starting lineup.
