Phenomenal’ Leeds youngster now fully expected to leave Elland Road next summer

Leeds United are flying under Daniel Farke this season but there looks to be plans in place already for the upcoming transfer windows.

Farke has managed to transform the Whites back into a winning machine at Championship level and they are firmly in the promotion picture at the moment.

Part of Farke’s job in the summer was to move players on who he felt wouldn’t contribute this season.

One of those players was young attacking midfielder, Sam Greenwood. The former Arsenal man flitted in and out of the team last season but was discarded in the summer by Farke and has since been playing well at Middlesbrough.

And according to The Athletic, Greenwood is not expected to make a return to Elland Road, which makes his form at ‘Boro all the more important for him.

Leeds only actually signed Greenwood back in 2020 but it very much seems his time with the club is set to come to an end.

The Athletic reports how Leeds negotiated a £1.5m clause with Middlesbrough for them to buy Greenwood permanently. It’s claimed that given his form for Michael Carrick’s side, that the move is now highly likely to happen.

Greenwood, who was lauded for a ‘phenomenal‘ goal against Bournemouth last season, would no doubt be open to the move to The Riverside, given how well he’s going.

For Leeds, it means they’ll land a bit of money for a player who Farke clearly doesn’t fancy at Elland Road.

Greenwood was actually developed at Arsenal but never quite made the cut before sealing his move to Leeds.

However, it seems another move is what’s going to be the making of him. Greenwood is likely to be among a host of Leeds players who depart the club at the end of the season. Young starlet Archie Gray is being tracked by the likes of Liverpool, who could pay big money.

A number of youngsters and first-teamers will be moved on, with a lot depending on which league Leeds are actually playing in for the 24/25 season.
