‘Honestly’…Jamie Carragher makes prediction for Everton’s clash with Man United Gary Neville disagrees with

Jamie Carragher has backed Everton to beat Manchester United when the pair meet at Goodison Park this weekend, but Gary Neville did not agree.

The pair were speaking on Stick To Football podcast ahead of the resumption of the Premier League season this weekend. Of course, a lot of eyes are going to be on Everton after this international break.

Sean Dyche‘s side were handed a 10-point deduction, with the Premier League confirming that they were punished for breaching their Profit and Sustainability Rules.

It is a huge blow which takes the Toffees to second-bottom in the league. Many will still be expecting Everton to stay up despite the points deduction. But it does feel as though it could be a pivotal moment in Premier League history given the money that most clubs are now spending.

Everton had actually won four of their last seven games in the top-flight, and six in their last nine in all competitions. And Jamie Carragher believes that they will add to that tally when they face Manchester United on Sunday.

Gary Neville however, was not so convinced.

“I think Everton will win, honestly, the atmosphere of the place. I don’t think Man United will win that game,” Carragher told Stick To Football.

“The worst I’ll go for is a draw, Carra. I’m not going worse than that. I’ll go 1-1. I think United will win by the way,” was Neville’s response.

Toffees will be galvanised by points deduction

Manchester United have won four of their last five league games. So they are on a decent run themselves.

However, Goodison Park is going to be quite a sight this weekend. Points deductions can often galvanise teams, particularly if the club feel that they have been wronged.

Everton were already a real force when playing at home. Their form at Goodison was a key reason for their survival in the last couple of years.

So it is frightening to think about how electric the atmosphere will be for this weekend. Certainly, if Manchester United are not up for the game, Everton could well secure the result that lifts them out of the bottom three at the first time of asking.
