Diego Simeone is certainly not winning any friends at Celtic after his antics in the last two Champions League fixtures against Brendan Rodgers’s side.
Despite claiming to be an admirer of Celtic, the fiery Uruguayan was criticised for his ‘handshake’ after the 2-2 draw at Celtic Park. Simeone appeared to blank Rodgers after the final whistle before giving him a half-hearted glance and handshake.
And after Tuesday night’s game, he also drew criticism for ‘shooting’ right up the tunnel in another apparent snub to the Celtic manager.
But it was neither of those instances that really annoyed Peter Grant. The former Celtic hero was less than impressed with Simeone’s antics prior to the referee sending off Daizen Maeda.
Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “But I must be perfectly honest with you, if it was against me, I’d be crying. And it didn’t help the fact that it was right in front of Simeone and all of them.
“They were giving it all that, the imaginary red card stuff and I hate all that stuff. Ridiculous.
“But it was right at that so that didn’t help. But genuinely, looking at it, I thought it was a red card.”
The Atletico boss hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory in this past fortnight and the sad thing is, he doesn’t need to resort to that kind of nonsense.

He is a fantastic manager with a squad full of international players. On their day they are more than a match for any of the top teams in Europe.
Resorting to those kinds of tactics makes Simeone look like a sore winner and that is not an attractive trait in any football manager.
Celtic do now have a mountain to climb to get out of this group and Rodgers will need to get at least four points from his last two remaining games if he hopes to fall into the Europa League.
