Celtic could bank over £6m next summer as sell-on clause for player sold in 2020 emerges

The brilliant thing about Celtic’s transfer business is that they are not only shrewd when it comes to finding emerging talent, but they also look after the future by inserting sell-on clauses for players that are moved on.

A case in point is that Celtic could be set to bank over £6m next summer should Bayer Leverkusen decide to sell Dutch international, Jeremie Frimpong.

The Hoops sold the youngster to the Bundesliga side in 2020 for a cool £11.5m a season after picking him up for £350,000 from Man City.

Now, after three years at Leverkusen, the German giants are reportedly resigned to losing him next summer as he has been one of the Bundesliga’s best players over the past two seasons.

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg posted on social media channel X this morning, “News Jeremie Frimpong: Leverkusen expect him to leave the club in 2024. The 22 y/o is also very keen on a transfer.

“He has a release clause of €40m in the summer! Incredible season again. Best Bundesliga right winger/right-back at the moment: 6 goals and 7 assists in 17 matches yet.”

How much Celtic will make from the sale of Jeremie Frimpong

According to Football Scotland, Celtic have a sell-on clause on Frimpong to the tune of 30% of any future profit the 22-year-old.

Should Leverkusen have their €40m buy-out clause matched, Celtic could be set to land over £6m for a player they sold for a huge profit just over three years ago.

It really is a fantastic piece of business by the Celtic powerbrokers and it will give Brendan Rodgers some extra funds to bring in another player or for next season’s assault on the Champions League.

With a host of clubs eager to sign the young full-back, the money will practically be guaranteed to Celtic.
