‘Let’s be honest’… Barry Ferguson says 24-year-old SPFL striker is ‘good enough’ to play for Celtic

Celtic’s need to bring in a striker in January is probably the most talked about piece of transfer business in the first half of this season.

With the Asian Cup looming and the prospect of losing Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Hyeongyu Oh to the tournament, the striking department could look pretty bleak for Brendan Rodgers soon.

All the recent talk has been about how Celtic should be looking at Hearts striker, Lawrence Shankland. The 28-year-old has been in excellent form for the Edinburgh side and has recently been called up, and scored, for Scotland.

But this time, it is not Shankland who is the talk of the town. It’s Aberdeen striker, Bojan Miovski. The North Macedonian international scored against Rangers on Sunday and Barry Ferguson thinks he could be one that Celtic should look to in January.

When asked if Miovski could play for Celtic or Rangers, Ferguson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He’s shown that he could be good enough. Eleven goals from an Aberdeen team that have struggled this season.

“Let’s be honest, he’s definitely an out-and-out goalscorer. And he’s decent at linkup play as well.

“He’s an international so why would you not look at players who are playing in the [Scottish] Premier League?”

Is Bojan Miovski good enough to play for Celtic?

The 24-year-old certainly has talent. Against England last week, Miovski caused Gareth Southgate’s men all sorts of problems as he won North Macedonia a penalty in the 1-1 draw.

In 165 career appearances, Miovski has scored 56 goals and created 26. For Aberdeen, he has been excellent.

In 63 appearances for The Dons, Miovski has netted 29 times which is almost a goal every two games. In six appearances in Europe, he has also scored on four occasions.

Miovski has scored just once in five losses against Celtic but three times against Rangers in seven appearances where his goals have led to the Ibrox club dropping four points over two seasons in the Scottish Premiership.

The question is not whether or not Miovski can score goals as he has already proven that. It is now whether Rodgers believes he could fit into Celtic’s system and what Aberdeen would want for a player who is very highly rated at the club.
