Michael Stewart says there is a striker in the SPFL Celtic should sign that is better than Hyeongyu Oh

Michael Stewart has told Celtic that they should stop looking abroad and look to the Scottish Premiership if they are looking for a striker to fill in for Kyogo Furuhashi in January.

The BBC pundit took in Celtic’s draw with Motherwell yesterday afternoon and after watching Hyeongyu Oh fail to hit the back of the net, Stewart has recommended that Brendan Rodgers look no further than Gorgie to fill the Japanese international’s boots when the Asian Cup comes around.

Stewart said [BBC Sportsound], “Somebody was saying that big Chris Sutton was talking about in terms of connection with, I may be wrong, going to Celtic or whatever. And there was some sort of, ‘Not for him.’ type of thing.

“For me, you look at big [Hyeongyu] Oh at Celtic, Lawrence Shankland? Personally, I think Lawrence Shankland scores goals.”

Lawrence Shankland to Celtic talk isn’t going away

I’ve made my feelings clear a number of times on TBR Celtic on whether I believe Shankland is good enough to play for Celtic.

And whilst I have my reservations, talk of him from the world of punditry isn’t going away. Mark Guidi told Celtic they would probably need to pay about £3m for the Hearts captain.

Peter Grant said that Shankland is a ‘natural finisher‘ and could do a job for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

And now it’s the turn of Stewart to claim that the 28-year-old striker could not only do a job for Celtic but is better than our current option of Hyeongyu Oh.

I just can’t see Hearts being willing to sell one of their best players to a direct rival. Especially when they have designs on being the best of the rest in Scotland.

Again, I reiterate, that I don’t believe Shankland is the answer but the Kyogo question must be answered soon by Rodgers or Celtic could see their title defence derailed this season.
