Melissa Reddy has claimed that Liverpool have been looking at Benfica star Darwin Nunez for a long time and a move is a possibility in the near future.

The Reds, ironically, faced Benfica last night and picked up a very impressive 3-1 win away from home. Liverpool have one foot in the semi-finals of the Champions League already and it won’t be a surprise to see them go all the way in the competition.

January signing Luis Diaz has hit the ground running for the Reds. Many were adamant that a player from the Portuguese league just couldn’t come in and deliver in the Premier League, but the Colombian has proved a lot of people wrong.

As a result, Liverpool could go back to the Portuguese top-flight for their next big signing and Nunez could well be the one.

Liverpool could make a move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez

Melissa Reddy, a senior journalist at Sky Sports now, said on their YouTube channel that fans should keep an eye on Benfica players as a few of them could soon wear the famous red shirt of Liverpool.

She said: “I know Liverpool’s scouting has focused heavily on this region. Keep an eye on the Benfica players, you might see them in a Liverpool shirt soon.

“Darwin Nunez (is one Benfica player), who has been looked at for a long time.”

If Liverpool really are interested in Nunez, he may just have passed the first audition yesterday.

The Uruguayan started for Benfica against Jurgen Klopp’s side and even scored past Alisson. The Reds boss was full of praise for Nunez before the game and it won’t be surprised if his opinion of the striker has gone up considerably after watching him live last night.

With Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all entering the final year of their contracts this summer, Liverpool may well need a new striker and Nunez, who has a £127million release clause in his contract, would be a stunning signing.
