Robbie Fowler thinks 24-year-old Liverpool player may not ever become ‘the finished article’

Robbie Fowler has given his verdict on Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez after watching him in action against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The former Liverpool striker was not impressed at all with Nunez.

So, what has Robbie Fowler said about Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, Darwin Nunez was in action for Liverpool against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Nunez could not score and was taken off in the 85th minute.

The Uruguay international started as the central striker for Liverpool in a 4-3-3 formation.

Nunez had a good chance in the first half, but his touches let him down. Although the striker worked hard and impressed City defender Nathan Ake, it was not a particularly great display from him.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has given his verdict on Nunez, and he does not seem to think that the striker will be able to become the player everyone expects him to be.

Fowler wrote about Nunez in The Mirror: “Without wishing to sound overly critical, I think it is a viable question to ask: how long do you allow a player to develop from raw and promising, into the finished article.

“I ask because that’s all I heard throughout the game at the Etihad…Liverpool could surpass Manchester City when Jurgen Klopp converts Darwin Nunez’s rawness into the finished article. For me though, it should be IF, not when. How long do you give him?

“He arrived at Anfield almost 18 months ago now, and yet we are still talking about this potential, this ‘exciting rawness’. But you can’t go through your entire career being raw, can you?”

The pundit added: “I do hope that Klopp will convert the rawness of Nunez into something special that allows Liverpool to win the title, as Gary Neville suggested, but I’m not yet convinced it will happen.”

Liverpool fans should have faith in Darwin Nunez

In my opinion, Liverpool fans should be patient with Darwin Nunez. I believe that he will come good eventually.

I do see Robbie Fowler’s point. Nunez has been at Liverpool for a while, and by now, he should be showing more progress than he has.

But, we have to let Nunez grow and develop at his own pace. We have to trust the process.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff will know better than anyone else what Nunez can and cannot do.

If Klopp is still persevering with the Uruguay international striker, then it shows that the Liverpool manager has complete faith in him.

Nunez has made 41 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool this season. The 24-year-old striker has scored 13 goals and given seven assists in those games.
