Paul Merson shares who he thinks is winning on Saturday… Everton or Manchester United

Paul Merson has insisted that he would actually be shocked if Everton lost against Manchester United when they meet at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Merson was speaking to Sportskeeda as he backed the Toffees to win 2-1 after they were handed a 10 points deduction this week.

Everton went into the international break off a much better run of form. Sean Dyche’s side had won four of their last seven games in all competitions. And the points deduction did not actually send the club to the bottom of the Premier League table – which is quite something after just 12 games.

Jamie Carragher backed Everton to beat Manchester United. And Paul Merson has also suggested that he expects the Toffees to win – largely because of the points deduction.

“The atmosphere at Goodison Park will be mindblowing this Sunday. After what happened with Everton’s point deduction, the fans are going to be up for this one,” he told Sportskeeda.

“I don’t see Everton losing this game. It’s us against the world as far as Sean Dyche’s men are concerned and Goodison Park will be rocking.

“Manchester United will be up against a team determined to prove everyone wrong. I’d actually be shocked if Everton got beaten in this one. Everton players work hard for each other and that is something we can’t really say about the Red Devils at this point in time.”

Points deduction has come at worst time for Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have secured some decent results in the league in the last couple of months. However, it is hard to argue that Erik ten Hag has managed to silence his doubters.

United have not been at all convincing this season. And if they are not up for Sunday’s game, they are really going to struggle to compete with Everton.

Dyche’s team talk is done for him after the announcement this week. And the fans would love nothing more than to help their side comfortably stay up this season.

Manchester United may certainly wish that Everton were handed their points deduction at another stage of the season.
