Michael Stewart believes that Celtic have a ‘wonderful talent’ who needs to get fitter

The wonderful world of Celtic has opinions on the players even after a brilliant 6-0 win over Aberdeen yesterday, questions are still raised about one of Celtic’s players.

BBC pundit, Michael Stewart is the next pundit to offer his opinion on Hoops midfielder, David Turnbull.

The 24-year-old has been the subject of much scrutiny. Especially as his contract is coming to an end at the end of the season and rumours circulate that a big offer could be on the way.

However, regardless of his goalscoring for Celtic, Stewart still thinks that Turnbull has a lot of improving to do.

Stewart said [BBC Sportscene], “I think he’s an absolutely wonderful talent and his striking ability is probably second to none.

“But when you look at the Celtic midfield, you look at their athleticism, the dynamism that they’ve got in the middle of the park, has probably the one thing that David Turnbull’s game hasn’t got.

“The game when he starts sometimes can drift past him for chunks. If you’re playing in the Celtic midfield, yes he’s got a great end product, he can score wonderful goals, but the general buildup of the game, I just think he’s got to be involved a little bit more if he’s going to cement himself in that position.

“He’s got the ability. I just wonder whether the athleticism is something that’s lacking.”

This isn’t the first time questions have been raised about Turnbull’s fitness in the middle of the Celtic midfield.

Not too long ago TBR Celtic told how Kenny Miller raised a similar issue as he questioned the Celtic players’ energy levels to compete with the likes of Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley.

Again, it seems like Turnbull’s talent is not in question here. Many agree that he has that in abundance. But to play for Celtic you need an engine to last over 90 minutes and it seems that that could hinder the Scotland international’s chances of becoming a regular for Brendan Rodgers.
