‘Definitely’… 25-year-old player wants to sign a new contract at Celtic

Celtic have done some tremendous work this season in tying up their best players to new and extended contracts.

The departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur led to fears that players like Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate could be tempted to join their former manager in London.

But Celtic moved quickly to quash those fears after dealing both players in to new long-term deals and they also secured the signatures of a further six players in the process.

One man who never expected to be at the club never mind be in the running for a new deal was Irish defender, Liam Scales.

Looking like he was on his way to Aberdeen, Scales’ story at Celtic this season has been nothing but remarkable.

Now an important first-team player, the 25-year-old was asked if would like to extend his stay in Glasgow and his answer was unequivocal.

Scales said [Daily Record], “Yeah definitely. I’m loving it here at the moment. As a kid from Ireland brought up this is where I’d want to be and playing regularly. I’m happy here and I definitely wouldn’t want to rush away from it.

“It’s the happiest I’ve been in football these last few months playing every week. If I can do that for as long as I can then brilliant.

“But I put these things (contracts) to the back of my mind and let other people deal with that so I can get on with what goes on on the pitch.

“It’s great to hear the manager say that. It shows I’ve impressed and done what I’ve always wanted to do – get into the team and play regularly.”

This will be news to the Celtic supporters’ ears. Scales deal ends at the end of next season and Brendan Rodgers is said to be keen to get him tied up to a new one.

Hopefully, this will be done sooner rather than later as recent transfer rumours suggest that the Republic of Ireland international is now attracting interest from clubs in Europe.

In other news, £12m player is being considered for a January move by Celtic
